On imposter syndrome and doing the damn thing anyway..
Hi friend,
It’s been awhile; yoga was yoga’ing, mental health was not health’ing, work was making me work.. you know all the things!
I am excited to report I passed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and I am gearing myself up to launch my first community classes in June. These will be on Zoom, every Tuesday at 6:15pm UK time. Class will be mixed level and I am sitting between wild excitement and crippling anxiety & imposter syndrome. I am over thinking my first sequence massively; full of “what if’s” etc etc.. and so I am trying to remember that this is part of the learning process and the whole point of community classes is to iron out the kinks and figure some stuff out before I jump out into the world of public classes. So, even though my self doubt is screaming “who do you think you are? you are not ready!” I will be starting that zoom class at 6pm on Tuesday and taking a few very deep breaths and I will do the best I can do.
I relaunched my website, and I am tinkering with it daily but everything is set up for you to book if you feel inclined. If you subscribe, you’ll receive an automated email which contains a code to get the June community classes for free, so don’t miss out on that.
I’ve been contemplating a lot about these next steps in my career and what lies at the heart of why I do what I do. The fitness and wellness industry continues to grow and that paired with social media and AI, I think is creating a real disconnect in what truly matters and a disconnect in ourselves.
I personally have experienced so much healing in my “fitness journey”.. along with some very toxic moments with food and overtraining, and so I want to focus on how we reconnect with incredible upsides to moving our bodies; improved fitness, circulation, increased strength and power, being able to move freely and well, the catharsis of a good workout, the clarity that comes when you allow yourself space from an overthinking brain, witnessing and learning about yourself, meeting yourself where you are with love and acceptance. I’m tired of the constant hamster wheel of the self-improvement journey - and while I see that we can all grow, I think the monetisation and popularisation of it is making us sick, unhappy and standing between us and living in the present moment.
I believe that what you do for todays you, is a gift for future you but don’t worry too much about them right now. Just be here now!!
WATCH
I had just started watching Pachinko on Apple TV.. my good friend Emily leant me the book and it was such an incredible read. I think this will be a slow watch, because 9/10 subtitles will lul me to sleep but two episodes in and I love it!
READ
I have just started to read Circe by Madeline Miller.. after literally devouring The Song of Achilies < 10/10 no notes. Its been a slower start but maybe thats because my poor brain has had enough. I am also reading Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle; I am a big fan of her podcast ‘We can do hard things’ and this book is real and raw. I love how brutally honest she is.
LISTEN
No new music, although I am waiting patiently for Little Simz new album Lotus, which I believe is dropping next Friday! In terms of podcasts; I am heavily rotating Wake Me Up, which are daily affirmations - a practice I picked up while in the biggest of spirals about a month ago, Heart Wisdom with Jack Kornfield - I listen daily; Buddhist Dharma talks with heart, humour and wisdom and I fall asleep to Sleep Magic most nights - Sleep Hypnosis with sleep stories and it is in fact magic!!
